Li Chuan graduated from the Department of Astronomy at Nanjing University and received his doctorate in science both from Nanjing University and University of Paris XI in 2008. In the same year, he went to Mullard Space Science Laboratory of University College London to engage in post-doctoral research. He joined the faculty at Nanjing University in 2011.
